She's reported on sports at many of the top publications around the world. The newspaper she worked for was The Washington Post nearly a decade covering Grand Slam Tennis and Grand Slam Football, as well as basketball at multiple Olympics. In 2004 Nichols transferred to ESPN for a nine-year run where she won two Emmy Awards and appeared on some of the network's most watched programs, like SportsCenter and NFL Countdown. She also served as an assistant journalist on the Monday Night Football broadcasts. After leaving ABC, her following station was CNN and Turner Sports. Unguarded with Rachel Nichols was the first show she produced and hosted. It was aired on CNN International and CNN. Over 1 billion viewers watched it worldwide. Nichols reported for TNT during this period, reporting on NBA broadcasts, including regular season games, playoffs or All-Star teams. Also, she reported for TBS covering baseball and golf broadcasts as well as Final Four broadcasts on CBS. Over the course of 42 years of this award, this was the first time that a woman had been among the 200+ nominees.
